Buchan wins Supersport Sunflower Trophy race
Danny Buchan won a Supersport 600 race and finished third overall in the Sunflower Trophy Race in Northern Ireland.
The ride was made all the more impressive given this was his first ever competitive ride on a Supersport 600 bike, riding the Gearlink Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and the World Class competition he faced.
Danny, who had just managed to reach the Bishopscourt International circuit from fishing holiday as a late stand-in for regular rider Ben Wilson, experienced the track and a full-blown Supersport machine for the first tim in Thursday practice.
Still getting used to the bike and track Danny finished fourth in the first Supersport race, third in the Sunflower Trophy main event (won by Ian Lowry on a full power Relentless Suzuki Superbike) and finally took victory in Supersport race two in treacherous, wet conditions.
Danny said, “Wow what a great week! The invite from Gearlink Kawasaki boss Michael de Bidaph came out of the blue and I only just managed to get over from my French fishing trip in time. I felt like I was building speed the whole way through so it was great to get the last win. I’ve been really looked after by the team and the event was great, really different.
The whole week has been crazy but really successful- I caught a 34lb mirror carp and won a Supersport race, mega!”
Danny finished the season as runner-up in the UK Metzeler National Superstock series with MSS Colchester Kawasaki and will be in a position to confirm his 2012 racing plans shortly.
